Tharoor showed disrespect to national anthem

Former UN under-secretary general Shashi Tharoor showed disrespect to India’s national anthem by interrupting when it was being sung at an event in Kerala last month, a rights group alleged Monday and said it would move court against him.

A petition has been moved in a lower court seeking action against former UN Under Secretary General Shashi Tharoor for allegedly interrupting the national anthem at a function here last month, a charge denied by him.
Former UN diplomat-turned-politician Shashi Tharoor was on Saturday granted bail by a court here in a case relating to alleged disrespect of the national anthem. Additional chief judicial magistrate A Krishnankutty granted bail to Tharoor on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and two solvent sureties for the like amount. Tharoor, the Congress candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency in the April 16 polls, was present in the court.
