Aishwarya said, “I told everyone that it would have been good if the college was named after Dada Harivansh Rai or Dadi Teji Bachchan. But everyone told me that it is theirs and UP’s blessing to me and I should be happy.”
During the function, the Bachchans clarified as to why the college has been named after Aishwarya and not Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh’s father. Jaya Bachchan in her address said that college has been named after Aishwarya so that in every house of UP, girls become educated and beautiful like her. She added, “Daughters-in law are given love and affection in UP and this college is a symbol of that.” Amitabh said, “Women constitute 50 per cent of our country’s population and hence their rights, respect and regard is important. Aishwarya’s name was chosen before her marriage.”
Chautala, however, attacked the UPA Government, and said that farmers are suffering due to the Centre’s wrong policies. He also targeted Chief Minister Mayawati and said that workers and farmers are not happy with this government. Yadav said that he would reinstate the 18,000 policemen sacked by Mayawati if he comes back to power. He added that Amar Singh and Amitabh had helped him a lot in the development of UP, but people with vested interests had tried to drag Amitabh in the land controversy. “Today Amitabh has shown that no one can prevent him from doing good,” said Yadav.
